The organization’s activities are mainly concentrated on the Russian side of the Wystynez upland, a unique natural Krasniy forest complex (Rominter Heide) and lake Wystynez which is divided between Russia (the Kaliningrad region), Lithuania and Poland. The institution carries out research and educational activities. The main focus is to preserve the natural, cultural and historical heritage of the Wystynez upland and to raise the level of population’s cultural and creative potential.
The museum’s stuff created a mobile museum exposition on the history and nature of the Wystynez upland, which reflects the history of relationships between man and nature on its territory and emphasizes the uniqueness of this beautiful place and the necessity to preserve it. Museum’s webpage was created and it’s constantly being supplemented with new sections. The institution prepared and held a number of exhibitions dedicated to the unique natural landscapes of the Kaliningrad region, cultural monuments and phenomena: the exhibition of historical and contemporary postcards of the Rominten forest, the exhibition “Wilhelm and Luisa” on the hunting castle of the German emperor Wilhelm II and Queen Luisa’s church, on the unique Celau highmoor. The staff of the museum annually conducts research expeditions on the Wystynez upland in order to study its natural and cultural heritage. The museum also implemented the project of a creative competition for children “My world – my Earth”. In 2005 the association received for free use an object of federal property – the XIX monument of architecture “Ruins of a church, 1873” for the purposes of conservation, restoration and carrying out cultural activities.
The institution has permanent cooperation with the Polish Landscape park “Rominden Heide” in the field of educational and research activities on the territory of the Wystynez natural complex. The Wystynez ecological and historical museum supported two international exchange projects between children of the Krasnolesye settlement and the Gdansk Educational Foundation “School Open to the World” and “Slavic Soul in Europe”. Currently the institution curates an international project aiming to create a natural park within the bounds of the Red forest – Rominten Heide financed by the Federal Ecological Foundation of Germany.
The museum is interested to develop cooperation in the field of education, particularly for children, preservation of unique natural landscapes and engaging local population in this process.
