The Kaliningrad Regional Arts and History Museum is the oldest museum in the Kaliningrad region which is located in the reconstructed building of Stadthalle, a monument of architecture of the XX century.
The museum assembles, keeps, studies and demonstrates natural-science, archeological, historical and art collections dedicated to the history of the region. The museum at once fulfils educational, methodological and other social functions. The total exposition area amounts to 3500 m2.
The core museum collection consists of 120000 items and is being constantly enlarged due to the arrivals of new objects found during archeological excavations on the territory of the city and that of the region. During 2008 the museum opened 50 exhibitions, 12 of them were international.

Besides, 14 monuments of history and culture, located on the territory of the Kaliningrad region, were handed over to the museum for the purposes of preservation, museumification and their use in tourist routes.
When organizing exhibitions, research and publishing projects the Museum cooperates with many European museums, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations, Kaliningrad based representative offices and consulates. The museum implements research and museum initiatives and restoration projects in cooperation with the State Archive of Olsztyn, the State Centre of Research and Documentation of Monuments of the Past (Poland), researchers from the Charlottenburg Castle (Germany), R&D restoration laboratories of Moscow, Schleswig-Holstein Museum of Archeology, Kiel University, the University of Marseille (France), the State Art Museum of Lithuania, the Arnau Curatorium (Germany) and the Assistance Society of Tarau Church (Germany).
