The Information and Museum Centre is a platform various programs and activities in the area of ecological education, culture and information for the local population and visitors of the national park “Curonian Spit”.
Exposition and exhibition activities of the centre emphasize natural, historical and cultural specificity of the Curonian Spit, the role and the importance of the National Park in the preservation of the peninsula, as well as natural and cultural uniqueness of other protected areas of the Kaliningrad region, Russia and other countries.
Information activities of the centre are focused on raising visitors’ awareness of the issues of environmental protection and creating positive image of the National Park. Moreover, they’re aimed at improving the visitors’ knowledge of the natural, historical and cultural peculiarities of the Curonian Spit. The Centre’s information activities seek to create and distribute diverse information produce and to render information services on the objects of cultural and natural heritage, tourist infrastructure, as well as to render various services to those coming to spend their time in the Curonian Spit.
Ecological and educational activities of the centre are aimed at shaping ecological consciousness of the visitors of the National Park, as well as creating a favorable climate for public support of the park on the part of the local community. This work seeks to establish the infrastructure of ecological and educational tourism, to render educational services and to distribute ecological information.
The Centre has a permanent museum exposition devoted to the nature and the history of the peninsula Curonian Spit. The Centre permanently holds research conferences and conferences for school students on the issues of ecology, art and thematic exhibitions. The Centre has an interactive ground for children at its disposal, where visitors get an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the history of the Sambian peninsula, the Curonian Spit and their inhabitants.
The European Union finances the international Polish-Russian project “Crossroads” implemented on the basis of the centre. One of the aims of the project is to create an outdoor museum of Ancient Sambia of the epoch of Vikings.
The Centre would like to develop cooperation in the field of research, representation, operation and management of protected areas (exhibition exchange, etc.). It also aims to exchange experience in the field of implementing interactive methods of ecological and educational activities.
